The Summer Golf league at Jo Daddy’s will begin Monday June 1, 2009 at 9am and will run every Monday morning from 9am to 10:30am, during the summer.

We’ve decided to change things up a little bit!  We realized that during the summer you may other plans that would have interfered with the summer golf league we’re hosting and you may have decided that you couldn’t commit for 10 weeks or perhaps you just simply cannot afford to pay the entire fee up front…    We’ve decided to change things up for you!

You can now pay weekly!  The cost is $15.00 per week and you can simply “Pay as you Play!   If you can’t make it one week, no problem – come when you can!

UPDATED: April 6, 2009

Wanted to let you know about something new I am doing.   I have teamed up with a local golf course, Jo Daddy’s in Palm Bay Florida and will be forming a number of different golf leagues.  The plan is to introduce many different types of leagues.  For example, our first one will be a junior league starting in June and continue until August.

Jo Daddy’s is located in Palm Bay off of Jupiter Rd.  The address is:  3255 Jupiter Blvd. SE   Palm Bay FL  32909.   The telephone number is:  321-723-1956.

Jo Daddy’s Golf Course is a executive nine-hole golf course which features 2 par 4’s, seven par 3’s that range from 88 to 162 yards.  If you enjoy playing in the evening, Jo Daddy’s can be played under the lights!  They are open until 11pm nightly.

I took my family to Jo Daddy’s (and they were all non-golfers) just the other day and we had such a great time we’ll be going back for more fun every week.

Another idea we are working on right now is a co-ed golf league formed by areas businesses.  We’re thinking that this league will be similar to that of a pool or dart leagues that you are familiar with now.  Check back often for more details.

Jo Daddy’s golf course in Palm Bay is very dedicated to our communities.  Their goal is for you to be able to play golf and enjoy yourself. They stress that families should come out to play golf together, enjoy fun times at extremely affordable pricing.  Jo Daddy’s dedication to not just the game of golf, but to you should be commended.

As a professional golf teacher and being very dedicated to the game itself I found this an opportunity that I couldn’t pass up.  I will spend my time offering clinics, very affordable lessons, and league play so that our community has a place to go, day and night for hours of affordable fun!

Women in Golf

By: Rachael Petralito

I was just a kid when I started to play golf.  But, have you ever wondered when women first starting playing golf!   I know I did.  For me golf was always a part of my life from the time I could swing a club but I often wondered how women got started playing golf and I finally sat down and did some research.

Women have made such great strides in the world of golf and have actually made history doing it.   It was because of a woman that we now have the “right” to play a game that was once a “man’s game only.    Let’s take a walk down memory lane.

My research tells me that women have to give special “thanks” to Mary Queen of Scots.  She must have been one incredible women!  It was as back in 1552, and although she was a women, was allowed to play golf anytime she wanted to.  I was not able to find out why but, who cares.  She did and right now – that’s all that really matters.   Amazingly enough, history tells us that “Her Highness” is credited with coining the phrase “caddy” which started out to be Cadets, her golf helpers.  It should also be noted that because of her interest in the game of golf, the ever famous St. Andrews golf course was built but it would be almost 400 years later that women would be allowed to play there.

Fast forward now to 1890.  This marks the earliest known mixed foursome.  This event is credited for peaking the interest among the ladies worldwide.   It wasn’t long after this foursome took place that a special 9 hole course was built especially for women at the Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in New York – that is still operating today.

By the early 1900’s women were included in the game of golf and apparently enjoying every minute.   The first women’s Amateur Golf Championship was won by a women named Mrs. Charles S. Brown who finished with a 132!

Now, it’s 2009 and who can remember the days when women weren’t allowed to play the game of golf!  Who would even have the nerve to mention it!  Not me, that’s for sure.

Now we have the LPGA and we have women Golf professionals all over the world!

There are Junior divisions of the PGA and the LPGA.  When I was just a little girl my parents put a golf club in my hand and to this day I don’t recall every putting it down!   Schools have golf teams and most courses offer junior clinics. If you have children encourage them to play. Not only is it a great game but it will help teach your child self discipline and patience at a very early age while at the same time, teaching them a great game!

Although I am a golf professional now and teach golf for a living I absolutely love the game of golf.  I enjoy going to the course with my girlfriends, playing 18 holes,  planning the next golf date or the next golf trip and just “having golf fun’!
